प्राचीन काल में एक राजा के पास एक हाथी था। उस हाथी पर चढ़कर उसने कई युद्ध में विजय हासिल की थी। यह हाथी जब छोटा था, तभी से उसे इस तरह से प्रशिक्षित किया गया था कि वह युद्ध कला में खूब प्रवीण हो गया।

युद्ध में सेना के आगे चलते हुए यह पर्वत सा हाथी जब गुस्से से चिंघाड़ता हुआ, दुश्मन सेना में घूमता था तो दुश्मनों के छक्के छूट जाते थे। इस तरह इस बलवान हाथी की कीर्ति चारों दिशाओं में फैली हुई थी।

धीरे-धीरे समय के साथ वृद्धावस्था की ओर बढ़ने लगा। उसकी चमड़ी ढीली हो गई। उसकी जवानी का जोश और पराक्रम जाता रहा।

अब उसे केवल हाथीशाला में ही रखा जाने लगा। उसका महत्व कम होने के कारण उसका पहले जैसा ध्यान नहीं रखा जाता था। उसे मिलने वाले खाने में भी कमी कर दी गई। कई बार तो बुड्ढे सेवक के ध्यान चूक जाने से उसे भूखा प्यासा रहना पड़ता था।

इन दिनों से ठीक से पानी नहीं मिलने के कारण और एक दिन बहुत प्यास लगने के कारण वह हाथीशाला से निकलकर एक पुराने तालाब के किनारे चला गया।

वहां उसने खूब छककर पानी पिया और नहाने के लिए गहरे पानी में उतर गया। लेकिन तलाब में ज्यादा कीचड़ होने के कारण वह वृद्ध हाथी उसमें फंस गया। वह जितना कीचड़ से निकलने का प्रयास करता, उतना वह अंदर धंसता जाता। ऐसा करते करते वह गर्दन तक कीचड़ में फंस गया।

वहां आसपास के लोगों ने उस हाथी को पहचान कर उसका समाचार राजा तक पहुंचाया। राजा ने तुरंत ही उसे निकालने का आदेश दे दिया लेकिन बहुत प्रयासों के बाद भी वह हाथी को नहीं निकलवा पाए। सभी उसे मौत के मुंह में जाते हुए देखने को विवश थे।

तभी एक मंत्री ने राजा को एक युक्ति सुजायी। राजा ने हाथी को निकालने वाले सभी लोगों को वापस बुलवा लिया।

अब सारे आदमियों को युद्ध सैनिकों की वेशभूषा पहनाई गई और वो सभी वाद्ययंत्र मंगवाए गए जो युद्ध के मौके पर काम लिए जाते थे।

हाथी के सामने युद्ध के नगाड़े बजने लगे और सैनिक इस तरह से उस हाथी की ओर बढ़ने लगे, जैसे वह दुश्मन पक्ष के हो।

यह दृश्य देखकर उस हाथी में गजब का जोश आ गया। उसने जोर से चिंघाड़ लगाई और दुश्मन पर हमला करने के लिए अपनी पूरी ताकत का इस्तेमाल करते हुए कीचड़ को रौंदते हुए तालाब के किनारे पहुंच गया। और दुश्मनों पर हमला करने के लिए दौड़ने लगा। आखिरकार उसे नियंत्रित कर लिया गया। इस तरह वह हाथी अपने मनोबल के कारण अपनी जान बचा पाया।

शिक्षा(Moral):
जिसका मनोबल जाग जाए तो वह कमजोर और असहाय होते हुए भी असंभव से दिखने वाले कार्य कर दिखाते हैं। मनुष्य की सारी सफलताएं उसके मनोबल पर निर्भर करती हैं। अपने प्रचंड मनोबल के दम पर वह हर लक्ष्य को प्राप्त कर सकता है।

इसलिए हमें भी कभी अपना मनोबल कमजोर नहीं पड़ने देना चाहिए। हो सकता है कुछ असफलताएं मिले, लेकिन हमें दुगुने उत्साह के साथ वापस उठ खड़ा होना है और फिर से भरपूर प्रयास करना है। दोस्तों कामयाबी झक मार के आएगी अपने पास।
