#Documentary #ALBATROSS #survival #Netflix #Sharks #Birds Recap...
Zoi, a chick albatross bird, and her fellow chicks have found themselves stranded on Layson Island, separated from their parents. Their only option for survival is to fly into the ocean. The tiger sharks are well aware of the inability of the albatross chicks to carry on with a maiden straight flight, as they tend to rest on the waters before their next flight. Sharks exploit this weak point of chicks and pounce on them for a quick meal. Zoi also faced the same challenges, and his initial attempt at flight proved unsuccessful. He had to land in the water, which caught a shark's attention.

 Zoi (Part 11)
The camera captures a tiger shark swimming beneath the surface, providing a clear image of Zoi on top. The shark below has already assessed the distance and enhanced its pace to attack Zoi. Meanwhile, on the surface, Zoi looked around and could not see any sharks nearby. It quacks and tries to fly. But the lack of wind and the weight of the water on his body made it impossible. The shark gets closer to Zoi from behind. With its wide jaw, the shark attacks Zoi, but he lifts himself up just in time. It was indeed a lucky escape, but to land again in the waters a few meters away.

The shark, too, has not given up. Within seconds, it launched another attack from the side. This time, instead of flying, Zoi makes the seawater its runway. Flapping its wings, it runs over the water's surface to get the required acceleration for takeoff. Within seconds, the camera shows Zoi running fast with wide wings. It then takes off into the skies. Finally, he is off into the open skies, into the horizon, to breathe in the beauty of life. Hopefully, he will meet his parents.
He may not touch land again for five years, as he would travel thousands of kilometres across the ocean searching for food. Now, I see Zoi flying deep into the horizon. I breathe a sigh of relief!
I saw Zoi look back and thought it said, "Goodbye and thanks for being with me!" With tears, I said, "Goodbye, dear Zoi; I wish you well!"

#Documentary #ALBATROSS #survival #Netflix #Sharks #Birds Recap...

For quite a while, Zoi, an albatross chick bird, along with other albatross chicks, have been stranded on Layson Island without their parents, and now it's time for them to fly into the open ocean to live their lives. However, they must overcome the risk of being forced to land in the water (since this is their first flight) and become a meal for the ravenous tiger sharks. In fact, the merciless killing has already begun, and Zoi has been observing since he, too, has to face the same challenge, failing which he would end up as a feast to one of the sharks!

Zoi (Part 10)

Zoi prepares for the takeoff and takes a few back-forth steps to warm up. If he reaches the open ocean, he will be a free bird without touching the land again for five years. But he has to overcome his first landing in the seawater, where the tiger sharks are waiting impatiently. He knows this is not a child's game, even though he is a child now.

There is no second chance or room for error as he watches the sharks kill other young albatrosses. He looks around before waiting for the right gust of wind to lift him up.
Finally, it's time to fly; he flutters his wing wide open. Leaving Laysan Island on his maiden voyage would be Zoi's most dangerous journey.
As the right gust of wind arrives, he begins his runway, spreading his wings. Now, for the first time in his life, he is airborne. Flying over the waves, he tries to cover up the shark-infested areas, but fate has other plans. The breeze suddenly drops, and Zoi splashes back into the water.

#ALBATROSS #survival #Netflix #Sharks #Birds #Ocean Recap...

Zoi, an albatross chick bird, and other albatross chicks are left alone on Layson Island by their parents. Their only hope for survival is to fly into the ocean. But they know the risk they must take—a chance of getting eaten by the tiger sharks since their first flight will never be long. They tend to land on water immediately after taking off. Zoi gazes helplessly at the merciless slaughter of his companions by the sharks.

Zoi (Part 9)

The sharks continue to attack and devour as many young Albatrosses as possible to have a satisfying feast. That's the only reason these tiger sharks swam thousands of kilometres and reached here. They are well aware of the yearly Albatross breeding season on Layson Island and, most importantly, the time of their maiden takeoff, when these young chicks are forced to land in the waters. These tiger sharks make the best use of it. A few hours before or after would have made their travel a waste. But they consistently arrive at Layson Island right on time year after year.
One can only be amazed by the incredible intuitive power of animals that nature has bestowed on them. At the same time, one can't help but feel sorry for all the innocent victims of these predators. Not to mention my feelings for the young ones who end their lives even before they begin to feel the beauty of life.
As the documentary progresses, my curiosity snowballs to know what destiny has written for Zoi, who I believe is scared to death, watching the massacre in broad daylight. He keeps chirping as his eyes are shown in close-up, which reflects the uncertainty ahead in his life, an imminent danger that he must overcome at any cost to breathe the beautiful life waiting for him. This is the only time, and all the chicks have to move on now, or they will die of hunger on this island, as no parent will return to feed them. The wind will also leave, not to return soon. Indeed, it's a do-or-die situation, and these attacks are not encouraging. Nothing motivates them other than life itself; hence, there's no looking back.

Returning to Zoi's neighbour, the black-footed Albatross, the chick's hunger is now satisfied, but what looked like a lifeline could have
been a death sentence, as the illustration below reveals:-

Across the island, albatross chicks are dying. My heart sank when the documentary showed the scattered plastic waste over the beach. Laysan is about 1600 km from the Hawaiian Islands and
quite far from its home country, the United States. How is it possible that such a lot of trash is spread out on this island? Imagine if these plastic wastes could reach the Earth's remotest speck of land; then what would be the plastic content lying in the ocean? Undoubtedly, these plastics lying all over are carried by ocean currents, which are thrown into the rivers, beaches, seas, and oceans by the most educated, cultured, well-mannered, and positive-thinking human beings. Yes, it's us!
These Albatross parents mistake minute floating plastic particles for food and bring it to their young ones, which would, in turn, kill the chicks. The camera shows one such chick choking and then lying motionless on the ground. It's dead. Several chicks are killed due to plastic getting mixed with their food. The parents of these chicks are helpless and can do nothing other than watch them give up their lives. Zoi, too, looks helplessly at the dying chick and quacks. The documentary says that Layson Albatross birds are in the greatest danger, consuming more plastic than any other seabird.
And things are only getting worse each year.

ZOI ( Part 2)

Every bird appearing on the horizon brings hope to these chicks. Zoi continues to gaze into the ocean, braving the rain, wind, and heat. He seems to be optimistic, which keeps his hope alive.

After a couple of days, a parent Albatross appears on the horizon, and Zoi quacks in anticipation. Indeed, the Albatross is carrying food. As the bird reaches Laysan Island, it turns out to be a black-footed albatross, parent to another chick. A gloomy Zoi stares at the lucky chick, who will be fed soon. The parent Albatross approaches its chick and opens its mouth to feed it.
Starving, Zoi couldn't resist its hunger and tried its luck approaching the parent of the lucky chick. But clearly, for the mother, its family comes first. It pokes Zoi very hard, forcing Zoi to the ground, and Zoi quacks helplessly in pain. Incapable of doing anything, Zoi keeps staring at the mother feeding her young one. It slowly gets up, turns to the horizon, and regains its old position, waiting to see its parents flying in.
Zoi's feather began to flutter in the winds,
forcing it to close its eyes. But still, it keeps
its eyes open, gazing far into the endless ocean.
Zoi did not want to miss the sight of its parents
appearing on the horizon.
